Sky Ferreira is an American singer, songwriter, model, and actress.

She is the daughter of Tonia and Victor Ferreira. Sky was raised by her maternal grandmother, and grew up around family friend Michael Jackson.

Sky has said:

My dad is Brazilian and Portuguese and my mom is Native American. It’s funny because I came out looking like, pretty white… I’m Caucasian-looking and none of my family is; everyone in my family is at least two shades darker than me.

Sky’s mother is of documented Native American ancestry, including Chippewa (Ojibwe), Cree, Chippewa-Cree, and Cheyenne. Her own maternal grandmother, Sky’s matrilineal great-grandmother, was Ashkenazi Jewish. Sky’s mother also has Scottish, English, Irish, and French ancestry.

A picture of Sky’s parents can be seen here.

Sky’s maternal grandfather is Gary LaMere, Sr. (the son of David “Dave” LaMere, Jr. and Eunice Mitchell). David was the son of David “Dave” LaMere, Sr., who had Chippewa [Ojibwe] ancestry, and of Rose Caplette, whose parents were Cree. Her mother was born in Canada. Sky’s great-grandmother Eunice was the daughter of Malcolm Gilbert Mitchell and Caroline Whitford, and had Chippewa and Chippewa-Cree ancestry.

Sky’s maternal grandmother is Carol May Gillespie (the daughter of Thomas J. Gillespie and Lillian Schaeffer). Sky’s great-grandfather Thomas was raised on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, in South Dakota, the son of George Calvin Gillespie and May Leora Parker. Thomas and both of his parents are listed as Native American on U.S. Censuses. Thomas’s father George was born in South Dakota, the son of David T. Gillespie, who was white, and of Sarah Long Chain, a.k.a. Long Chin, who was of Cheyenne Native American ancestry. Thomas’s mother May Parker was born in Montana, and was also of part Cheyenne Native American ancestry.

Sky’s matrilineal great-grandmother Lillian Schaeffer was the daughter of Morris Schaeffer and Anna/Annie Paltier/Patter, who were Jewish emigrants, from Bukowina and Galicia.

Her parents are Victor M. Ferreira and Tonia Maria Lamere. (Source: Victor and Tonia’s marriage record: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VVPP-TF6 )

According to US Public Records, Tonia was born in December 1966: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KTWL-3HX

So, I am not sure if this was her in the California Birth Index due to different middle initial which is unlikely: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VGWB-86T

Also, I am 50% sure if this was her maternal grandmother Nikkoqua/Nikko Quai: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:29TN-CTK

Who ever is Brazilian, must be European(insert) -Brazilian, as there are Mestizo(Spanish word for mixed,Indigenous and European(usually Portuguese or Spanish) Mulatto Brazilians, Japanese or Asian-Brazilian, or Arab-Brazilian. She looks European, and I would like Follers or someone to point out where this Native american ancestry comes from, and if there is proof or documentation of it, and how much %/how far back it is. she looks pretty white to me, and I hope this isn’t another one of thoughs liars who tries to appear tri-racial to be seen as being exotic.

BUT IF WE ARE REFERRING TO HER BEING NATIVE THROUGH HER BRAZILIAN HERITAGE, SHE WOULD BE INDIGENOUS-Brazilian(insert tribe), NOT AMERICAN.

So I’m very doubtful she of Native descent, as no tribe is listed, and no link to where it comes from. She looks close to being 90% white.

    • J.J. says:

being tri-racial doesn’t make someone exotic, the word exotic means foreign. Native American doesn’t necessarily mean the native North Americans it can mean any indigenous tribe to the America’s. As for what specific tribe the native American is referring to is unknown as the Wikipedia page doesn’t go into that much detail, it’s just referred to her heritage as Portuguese, Brazilian and Native American, and since Brazilian is not an ethnicity I’ve combined it with the Portuguese as I assumed that’s what it meant. But what you’re saying is true, the native American could be indigenous Brazilian but I still don’t see the harm in listing is as Native American, Brazil is in the America’s.

    • Gurrl says:

She didn’t mean Brazilian indigenous, she meant Native American. If she was part Native-Brazilian she would have stated it.
