Her mother was adopted by Debbie Jean (Gibson) and David Michael Cornett, and was raised in Texas. Selena has stated that, later in life, her mother found out that, by birth, she “has Italian roots.” It is not clear if her mother is of fully or partially Italian background; she has been referred to as both in press reports. Selena’s mother’s adoptive parents are mostly of British Isles descent. David was born in Texas, and is the son of Ernest William Cornett and Helen Elizabeth Spangler. Debbie is the daughter of J. C. Gibson and Lois Maybell Pierce.
Selena’s parents separated when she was five years old, and her mother later married Brian Teefy.
She was named after Tejano singer and actress Selena Quintanilla-Pérez. Selena has released a Spanish-language EP.

Yes, there are a lot of white Mexicans. But people need to get it through their fat heads that being Mexican is NOT a race. It’s an ethnicity that is shared by a group of people from various backgrounds and races. You got whites, brown, yellow and even black Mexicans living in Mexico. The richest man in Mexico is of Lebanese ancestry. Just like Salma Hayek.
Therefore, when people call Selena Gomez a Mexican or half-Mexican, they are referring to her Mexican heritage. Not her race.

Uhm you’re wrong. There is dark & light skinned mexicans. Most of the time light skinned mexicans have more of their Europe ancestry blood in them hence the skin color. Have you ever even been to Mexico? Many Mexicans aren’t even all that dark. Just olive skinned complection. If you mean she’s lighter than the Mexicans in the states, then yes she is.

Yup, she is pretty much what you’d call a “white Mexican”. Someone who is predominately European, yet she may have a bit of indigenous in her.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure that she is mostly white. Her dad looks like a “whiter” more European blooded Mexican, while her mom is pure white. My guess would be that she is approx. 85% white and 15% Native American.

For your info most Mexicans are either white, Native American, or a mixture of the two. Mexican is not a race, it’s an ethnicity. So yes, in ethnic terms she is half Mexican and half Italian. In racial terms, I would guess that she is 85% white and 15% Native American.

Yes you are right. But you also forgot to mention the Arab-Mexicans and Asian-Mexicans. The richest man in the world is Lebabese-Mexican. Arab-Mexicans represent 1.1% of Mexico; a bit more than the percentage of Africans in Mexico. So really, Arab-Mexicans represent Mexico more than Africans represent Mexico. This page is on Selena Gomez, yet I don’t think that she has African-Mexican blood in her. Like I said before, she looks prdominately European with a hint of indigenous Mexican.

Actually, lots of people forget to mention Arab-Mexicans, Asian-Mexicans, and even European-Mexicans as well as African-Mexicans. If you tell kids about Asian or even “white” Mexicans, they’ll freak out and say you’re lying. We are actually taught in history class about the Africans and Europeans brought to Mexico and the rest of Latin America. Heck, I turn on the Latin American channel on the ABC station and learn about afro-Mexican culture. Yet we aren’t always taught about the many other ethnicities that are in Mexico or Latin America such as Japanese, Lebanese, Chinese, and the list goes on.

Well this is the first I every heard of that,because every Mexican I every talk to,never even knew black people were every in the country.As matter of fact the Mexicans on this site called me a liar,for saying black people were in the country,but they mention all the others ethnicity you did with no problem.Now that is exactly what most Mexicans I talk to call those Mexicans,(white Mexicans).Now if your being taught about Afro-Mexicans,it’s recent because before I think the last 10yrs,Afro-Mexicans were invisible
I think that she got less Native then you mentioned…! I think that she is like 90% White and about 10% Native…. she is maybe a full White European because there are some Whites which look like her and her that is really “Whitish” and her mum is full White!

She’s not a Native-American. She’s HALF-Mexican. A Mexican is not a Native-American since they’re usually mixed race (part Native, part European). Besides, Selena herself has identified herself as Mexican (she said this on an American TV show). Her dad is of Mexican descent and they celebrate Mexican customs. Selena loves Mexican food as well.
