Ryan McDonagh is an American professional ice hockey player. A defenseman, he plays for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was previously with the New York Rangers, Barys Astana, and the Nashville Predators. He was also captain of the Rangers.

Ryan is the son of Patty and Sean McDonagh. His uncle is professional football player and coach Steve Walsh. Ryan is married to Kaylee Keys, with whom he has one child.

Ryan’s paternal grandfather was named Peter Joseph McDonagh.

Ryan’s paternal grandmother was named Kathleen Harkin.

Ryan’s maternal grandfather is named William Patrick Walsh.

Ryan’s maternal grandmother is Marlene Marie Busse (the daughter of Arthur Herman Busse and Jeanette M. Bambenek). Marlene was born in Minnesota. Arthur was of Polish descent, and was the son of Herman H. Busse and Helen Louise “Lizzie” Manzoke/Manska. Jeanette was born in Minnesota, to Polish parents.
