Rudy Fernandez was a Filipino actor and producer. He was nicknamed Daboy.
He was the son of Maria Pacita Ruiz Padilla and film director and actor Gregorio Montemayor Fernandez. His father was a native of Lubao, Pampanga, and was of Kapampangan, some Bicolano and Chinese, and remote Hiligaynon, descent. His mother was a native of Plaridel, Bulacan, and was of Tagalog, and some Spanish, descent. His maternal grandfather was politician and actor José Reyes Padilla, Sr. Through José, he was a first half-cousin of actor, model, and businessperson Rommel Padilla; actress, model, entertainer, comedian, and director BB Gandanghari (born Rustom Cariño Padilla); and politician, television personality, film actor, and director Robin Padilla; a first cousin, once removed, of singer and actress Zsa Zsa Padilla; and a first half-cousin, once removed, of Rommel’s son, actor and recording artist Daniel Padilla.
Rudy was married to actress, host, and television producer Lorna Tolentino, until his death. He had a son, actor Mark Anthony Fernandez, with his former partner, actress and politician Alma Moreno; and two children, including actor Renz Fernandez, with Lorna. His grandson is actor, host, and recording artist Grae Fernandez, who is Mark’s son.
Rudy’s paternal grandfather was Eugenio Fernández y Araneta (the son of José Fernández and María Balbina Araneta y Cubacub). Eugenio was born in Lubao, Pampanga, Central Luzon, Philippines. María Balbina was the daughter of Tomás Araneta y Germán and Marcela Anastacia Cubacub y Macaspac.
Rudy’s paternal grandmother was María Montemayor y Lugue (the daughter of Paulino Montemayor and Roberta Lugue). Tomás’ father, Joaquín de Araneta, was mestizo sangley/Chinese mestizo, from Molo, Iloilo. Tomás’ mother, Justa Germán, was Bicolana, from Naga, Camarines Sur. Justa’s mother, Vicenta Ágata, came from Albay.
Rudy’s maternal grandfather was José Padilla Gálvez (later José Reyes Padilla, Sr., the son of Pedro Padilla Ortiz and Mónica Gálvez y Mariano). José was born in Plaridel, Bulacan, Central Luzon, Philippines, and was a lawyer, politician, and movie actor, who was Governor of Bulacan, from 1928 to 1931, and again, from 1934 to 1937. Pedro was the son of Rufino Padilla and Macaria Ortiz. Rufino’s patrilineal great-great-grandfather, Luis Ortiz de Padilla, came from the Canary Islands, Spain. Monica was the daughter of Luisa Villanueva Tapia.
Rudy’s maternal grandmother was named María Clara “Clarita” Ruiz. María Clara was born in Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines.
