Roberto is a relative of Silvestre Selva Sacasa, who was the 17th President of Nicaragua, and of Benjamín Lacayo Sacasa, who was the 67th President of Nicaragua.

Roberto’s parents are both Nicaraguan. Roberto’s father is mostly of Spanish, along with distant Italian, from Genoa, through the surname Marengo, descent. Roberto’s mother also has Spanish ancestry, as well as some English, and French, roots.

Robert is a relative of actress Madeleine Stowe, through their descent from Mariano Ignacio de Montealegre y Balmaceda, who was born in Grenada, Spain, and from Mariano’s wife, Manuela Casimira de Romero y Sáenz Vásquez de Quintanilla y Bonilla, who was born in Cartago, Costa Rica.

    The surname “Aguirre” is Basque.

His father, Francisco Aguirre-Sacasa, has served as Foreign Minister (2000-2002) and as Nicaragua’s ambassador to the United States.

“Sacasa” family is very prominent in Nicaragua (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk%3ASacasa). They also related to the Montealegre family (see Madeleine Stowe)

    * Roberto Sacasa y Sarria has been President of Nicaragua (1889-1901)

Both Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Madeleine Stowe descend from this man: https://www.geni.com/people/Mariano-Ignacio-de-Montealegre-y-Balmaceda/6000000001154968058?through=6000000002306953030

and his wife Manuela Casimira de Romero y Sáenz Vásquez de Quintanilla y Bonilla

Specifically, Mariano Ignacio de Montealegre y Balmaceda was Roberto Sacasa Sarria’s (Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s paternal great-great-grandfather) maternal great-grandfather, and also the maternal great-grandfather of Aguirre-Sacasa’s other paternal great-great-grandfather, Norberto Salinas Ramírez. So, Aguirre-Sacasa descends (at least) twice from that couple.

Mariano Ignacio de Montealegre y Balmaceda was also Micaela Carranza Montealegre’s (Madeleine Stowe’s maternal great-grandmother) maternal great-grandfather
