Richie Ashburn was an American professional baseball player. He was a center fielder in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played most of his career for, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a member of, the Philadelphia Phillies. He was nicknamed “Putt-Putt,” “The Tilden Flash,” and “Whitey.”

Richie was the son of Genevieve (Warner) and Neil Maitland Ashburn.

Richie’s paternal grandfather was Robert Wilson Ashburn (the son of William Jordan Ashburn and Jane Dane/Dain). William was born in Tazewell County, Illinois, the son of Bird Ashburn and Mary Havens. Jane was born Illinois, the daughter of Joseph Dain and Isabel McLough.

Richie’s paternal grandmother was Elizabeth Emaline “Betty”/Bettie Halsey (the daughter of Henry Halsey and Nancy Jane/A. Stanford). Henry was born in Virginia, the son of James Halsey and Martha “Patsy” Peak. Nancy was born in Grayson, Virginia, the daughter of Joseph Stanford and Mary Nancy “Mollie” Phipps/Buchanan.

Richie’s maternal grandfather was Lovell Lyman Thomas Warner (the son of Anaximander/Amaxissander Warner and Hannah Elizabeth Norman). Lovell was born in Nebraska. Anaximander was the son of Thomas White Warner and Martha N. McCarley. Hannah was born in Ohio, the daughter of William Lovell Norman and Mariah Ann Parkins.

Richie’s maternal grandmother was Mary Ann Palmer (the daughter of Gilbert C. Palmer and Frances America Payne). Mary Ann was born in Nebraska. Gilbert was born in Michigan, the son of Barton Chapin Palmer and Sarah Jerusha Marsh. Frances was born in New York, the daughter of Wilbur H. Payne and Mary Ann Marsh.
