Red Buttons was an American actor and comedian. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Sayonara (1957).
He was the son of Sophie and Michael Joseph Chwatt. His parents were Polish Jewish immigrants. Red was married to Alicia Prats, until her death, with whom he had two children.
Red’s paternal grandfather was Jakub/Yaakov HaKohen Chwat (the son of Aaron HaKohen Chwat/Chavit and Hendla/Gittel Luria). Yaakov was born in Svara, Kletnyansky District, Bryanskaya oblast, Russia. Aaron was born in Borisov, Minsk, the son of Yussel Chwatsky and Chava Esther Abramovich. Hendla was the daughter of Tzvi Luria.
Red’s paternal grandmother was Bluma/Blima Folman (the daughter of Markus/Mordechai/Mordka Yitzhak/Yitzchak/Iciek Folman and Gitla Dyna Elechonowicz). Bluma was born in Radom, Masovian Voivodeship, Poland. Markus was the son of Jankiel Folman and Blima Waintraub. Gitla was the daughter of Szaia Elchonowicz and Ruchla Dorembus.
Red’s maternal grandfather was named Chaim Bikovski.
Red’s maternal grandmother was named Chasia Sznajder (the daughter of Chaim Sznajder/Schneider and Leah). Chaim was the son of Gersz Sznajder and Jenta Leji. Leah was born in Ukraine.
