Matt Holliday is an American professional baseball player and coach. He was a left fielder and first baseman, and played in Major League Baseball for the Colorado Rockies, Oakland Athletics, St. Louis Cardinals, and New York Yankees.
Matt is the son of Kathryn Sue and Thomas Holliday. He is married to Leslee, with whom he has four children.
Matt’s paternal grandfather was Donald Owen “Doc” Holliday, Sr. (the son of Harrison “Harry” Holliday and Alverta Augustine). Doc was born in Pennsylvania, and was at one point signed by the Yankees, interrupted by his World War II service. Harry was the son of William M. Holliday and Rebecca E. Ingram. Alverta was the daughter of Jeremiah Augustine and Harriet Duckworth.
Matt’s paternal grandmother was Edith Antoinette Leonelli (the daughter of Venanzio Leonelli and Filomena Sylvester). Edith was born in Pennsylvania, to Italian parents. Venanzio was born in Campagnano di Roma, Lazio. Filomena was born in Naples, Campania.
