She is a niece of actors Andy Poe (Fernando Kelley Poe, Jr.) and Conrad Poe (Conrad Castro Poe). At the time of her birth, her father was married to actress Susan Roces. Her father publicly stated that Lovie was his daughter in 2004. Her legal half-sister is politician, businessperson, educator, and philanthropist Grace Poe, who was adopted by her father and Susan.

Auther was an American, of English, French, German, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh descent. Auther’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his sixth great-grandfather, James O’Kelley, who was born in Clare, County Clare, Ireland.
