Lanny McDonald is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He was a right winger in the National Hockey League (NHL), and spent his hockey career playing for the Calgary Flames, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Colorado Rockies. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992.

Lanny is the son of Phyllis, a teacher, and Lorne McDonald, who maintained the family farm, near Craigmyle. He is married to Ardell, with whom he has four children.

Lanny’s paternal grandfather was Lorne Harold McDonald (the son of Robert Andrew McDonald and Mary Kinniburgh). Robert was born in Canada, the son of Scottish parents James McDonald and Sarah Fyfe. Mary was born in Scotland, the daughter of Hugh Kinniburgh and Margaret McKellar.

Lanny’s paternal grandmother was Hannah Clarice Moore (the daughter of John Moore and Charlotte Hill). Hannah was born in Ratby, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough, Leicestershire, England. John was the son of Thomas Henry Moore and Eliza Platts. Charlotte was the daughter of James Hill and Emma Slingsby.

Lanny’s maternal grandfather was Kingsley Arthur Morton (the son of Arthur Wellington Morton and Mary Abigail LaChapelle). Mary was born in Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Louis LaChapelle and Candice Matte.

Lanny’s maternal grandmother was Alice Mary Combra (the daughter of Charles Combra and Sarah Jane Dunlop). Charles was the son of Irish parents, Thomas Hampton Combra and Mary Ann Miller. Sarah was born in Canada, the daughter of Charles Dunlop and Ann Houston.
