Kurt Waldheim was an Austrian diplomat and politician. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs, from 19 January, 1968 to 21 April, 1970, the fourth Secretary-General of the United Nations, from 1 January, 1972 to 31 December, 1981, and the ninth President of Austria, from 8 July, 1986 to 8 July, 1992.
Kurt was the son of Josefine Petrasch and Walter-Wenzel (Watzlawick) Waldheim, a school inspector, who was of Czech origin. Kurt was married to Elisabeth Ritschel, with whom he had three children. Kurt’s activities during World War II have come under scrutiny, including significant evidence that he had participated in Nazi-sponsored persecution.
Kurt’s paternal grandfather was Wenzel Watzlawik (the son of Wenzel Watzlawik and Marianna Klement). Kurt’s great-grandfather Wenzel was the son of Anton Watzlawik and Anna Horak. Marianna was the daughter of Jakob Klement and Eleonora Tanzer.
Kurt’s paternal grandmother was Maria Kratochwill (the daughter of Franz Kratochwill and Franziska Karlberger). Franz was the son of Karl Kratochwill and Maria Katochwill. Franziska was the daughter of Joseph Karlberger and Anna Maria Fenz.
Kurt’s maternal grandfather was named Joseph Wilhelm Petrasch. Joseph was born in Klosterneuburg, Wien-Umgebung District, Lower Austria, Austria.
Kurt’s maternal grandmother was named Amalia Leitzinger.
