Juan Ramón Jiménez was a Spanish poet and writer. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1956.

He was the son of Purificación Mantecón y Lopez Parejo and Victor Jiménez y Jiménez. His paternal family was from Nestares de Cameros and Torrecillas de Cameros, La Rioja.

Juan’s paternal grandfather was Miguel Jiménez Sainz del Prado (the son of Manuel Jiménez and Joaquina Sáez del Prado).

Juan’s paternal grandmother was Ignacia Jiménez Jiménez (the daughter of Diego Jiménez and Josefa Jiménez).

Juan’s maternal grandfather was named Ramón José Mantecón y Gil. Ramón was born in Manzanilla, of Cantabrian descent.
