Joseph Schildkraut was an Austrian-American actor. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Life of Emile Zola (1937).
Joseph was the son of Erna (Weinstein) and Rudolph Schildkraut (Rudolf Maximillian Schildkraut), who was an Austrian film and theatre actor. His father was born in Constantinople, the Ottoman Empire (now Istanbul, Turkey), and grew up in Romania. His mother was born in Sučany, Slovakia.
Joseph was married to Marie McKay, until her death, and then to Leonora Rogers, until his death.
