Joe Torre is an American professional baseball executive, player, and television commentator. A catcher and first baseman, he played for the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB), and managed the New York Mets, the Atlanta Braves, the St. Louis Cardinals, the New York Yankees, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has been MLB’s chief baseball officer, from 2011 to 2020, and special assistant to the Commissioner of Baseball, since 2020.

Joe is the son of Margaret and Joseph “Joe” Torre, Sr. His brother, Frank Torre, was also a professional baseball player. His father was born in New York, to Italian parents. His mother was Italian. His surname, Torre, is common in both Italian and Spanish. He carried the Olympic torch in Florence during the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino.

Joe is married to Alice (Ali) Wolterman. He has three children.
