Alba in 2010

Birth Name: Jessica Marie Alba

Place of Birth: Pomona, Los Angeles, California, United States

Date of Birth: April 28, 1981

Ethnicity:
*father – Mexican [including Spanish, Indigenous Mexican/Mayan, distant Sephardi Jewish and African]
*mother – Danish, Welsh, English, Scottish, Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, French

Jessica Alba is an American actress, model, and businessperson. Her roles include the films Camp Nowhere, Idle Hands, Honey, Frank Miller’s Sin City, Fantastic Four (2005), and their respective sequels; Good Luck Chuck, The Eye (2008), Meet Bill, Valentine’s Day, Machete, and its sequel; Little Fockers, Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, and Mechanic: Resurrection, and the series The Secret World of Alex Mack, Dark Angel, and L.A.’s Finest. She has co-founded consumer goods company The Honest Company, which sells baby, personal, and household products. She has also been billed as Jessica Warren, her married name.

Jessica is the daughter of Catherine Louisa (Jensen) and Mark David Alba, who was in the Air Force. Her father, who was born in Los Angeles, is of Mexican descent, including Spanish, Indigenous Mexican/Mayan, and distant Sephardi Jewish and African, roots. Her mother, who was born in Virginia, has Danish, Welsh, English, Scottish, Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, and French, ancestry. She was raised partly in Biloxi, Mississippi; Del Rio, Texas; and finally Claremont, California, traveling for her father’s career.

Her brother is actor Joshua Alba. Jessica is married to producer Cash Warren, with whom she has three children. Cash’s father is African-American and his mother is white. Jessica’s third cousin, once removed, is writer Gustavo Arellano.

Jessica has described her father as very dark and her mother as very fair. According to Jessica, her grandfather never spoke Spanish at home because he wanted the family to assimilate into the American mainstream. As a result, Jessica’s father did not learn to speak Spanish.

A DNA test whose results were displayed on the show Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. (2014) stated that Jessica’s genetic ancestry is:

*72.7% European
*22.5% East Asian/Native American [Indigenous Mexican]
*2.4% No Match
*2.0% Sub-Saharan African
*0.3% Middle Eastern/North African
*0.1% South Asian

Jessica has stated that she identifies with her Mexican-American heritage. DNA tests on the show indicated that Jessica’s direct patrilineal ancestor was Indigenous. These DNA tests also displayed that Jessica’s father’s direct matrilineal ancestor, Maria Carmen Carrillo/Carillo, was of Sephardi Jewish descent. They also showed that Jessica’s father likely has at least 2.1% Sephardi Jewish ancestry in total. DNA matches listed him as 0.7% Ashkenazi; they also listed him as 0.6% Italian, 0.4% North African, and 0.4% Middle Eastern, all of which were or likely were Jewish in his case according to DNA matches.

Jessica’s 0.1% South Asian DNA is evidently from Jessica’s mother’s side.

Genetically, Jessica was found to have a common ancestor with attorney Alan Dershowitz.

Jessica’s paternal grandfather is José Sánchez Alba (the son of Catalino Morones Alba and Francisca/Frances Sánchez). José was born in San Bernardino, San Bernardo Co., California, to Mexican parents. Catalino was born in San Dimas, Durango, the son of Ambrocio/Ambrosio Alva/Alba and Maria Morones/Morence. Francisca was born in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, the daughter of José Hipólito/Polito Sánchez Hernandez and Refugio/Refugia Cisneroz/Rangel.

Jessica’s paternal grandmother is Ysabel/Isabel Martinez (the daughter of Daniel Fernandez Martinez and Guadalupe Nieves Miranda y Lares). Isabel was born in San Bernardino County, California, to Mexican parents. Daniel was born in Purépero de Echaíz, Michoacán, the son of Eugenio Martinez and Pascuala/Pasquala Fernandez. Guadalupe was born in García, Zacatecas, the daughter of Juan Miranda and Silveria Viramontes/Miramontes y Lares.

Jessica’s maternal grandfather was Harry Christian Jensen, Jr. (the son of Hans/Harry Christian Jensen and Sarah/Sara Evelyn Rhys). Jessica’s grandfather Harry was born in Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois, and served in WWII and the Korean War. Jessica’s great-grandfather Hans was born in Illinois, to Danish parents, Mads Hansen Jensen and Johanna Jensdatter. Sara was born in Minnesota, to a Welsh father, Samuel H. Rhys, and to a mother, Evaline/Evelyn/Eva Walbridge, who was born in Rochester, Monroe, New York.

Jessica’s maternal grandmother was Louisa Harrison Tebault (the daughter of Paul Miars/Myers Tebault and Catherine/Catharine Louisa Nichols). Jessica’s grandmother Louisa was born in Washington, D.C. Paul was the son of William Paul Tebault and Julia S. Catherine was the daughter of Albert Nichols and Loula Harrison Wharton.

Jimenez: When the test says “white,” it means native European. Jessica is 87% white and 13% Native American, a term which includes the indigenous from all over the Americas. Her dad is Mexican-American of Spanish/Native American descent, and her mother is French Canadian.

    • Jimenez says:

Susan, the thing is, the test does not say “white”. Pretty amazing, huh?

      • crazybich says:

Ok why cant everyone just agree to what her ethnicity is.LIKE SERIOUSLY STOP! Shes 87%white 13% native PERIOD. Genetics play tricks on ppl. the reason she looks a olive skiined is because she got more of her dads genitics. just like some people look more like their mothers or fathers. DEAL WITH IT! I dont understand why ppl are saying that “oh the test is rong shes 1000% native american” like SHUT UP! her mother is 100% WHITE And her dad is MIXED WHICH WOULD EQUAL= OBIOUSLY MORE EUROPEAN! jessica herself is very ignorant. But ii guess no one can do anything about those ignorant ppl sadly enough :/ Coming from a mexican myself, i know im more european. ALMOST EVRYONE IN MEXICO IS MORE EUROPEAN BUT THEY JUST LOOK MORE NATIVE AMERICAN BECUASE OF GENETICSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! of u ever come to mexico ull see there are light skinned mexicans TOOOOOO!

I bet you never even read the link I posted previously, here’s a link to the testing company, and they write:
      http://www.ancestrybydna.com/ancestry-by-dna.php

For your convenience, a quote from the page:
“Please note that this test does not predict or establish a person’s race*; it only gives an estimate of genetic ancestry or heritage”

Also, the 95% confidence interval wasn’t mentioned by Lopez, but that would have told us how accurate those 13/87% was. As they’re unknown, nobody here can tell the accuracy of the test, even if we accept it as completely valid.

However, the test does not say that she is 87% “white”, no matter how many times you repeat this. The test simply does not test if anything is “white” -> you just call it white because Lopez said so, but there’s no biologically defined “white”.

Again, as I said on the previous page, I cannot say that she isn’t 87% white. I never said that she is dark or brown or that she has fish lips, as you claimed I said on the previous page, I just referred to what she was teased for by her own words. Personally, I don’t think she’s dark at all. She’s olive skinned like many Southern Europeans. It’s her features which are exotic, not her skin tone. That’s why she could play a mixed Bornean native in one of her movies.

“White” is a social construct, and it means different things to different people. Therefore you cannot claim that a person is definitely “white” based on genetics, it’s a matter of self identification, and how she was seen by other people – it depends on the social context. She is half Mexican and a quarter Danish and a quarter French Canadian – THAT’s the undeniable fact. None of those are races, obviously, but the genetic test does not test races either, it tests your genetic ancestries.

She is obviously of much more European ancestry than Indigenous, and nobody says otherwise. It doesn’t matter that a person looks more like a European than the person looks like a Native American – In her case, clearly she looks far more European than Native, however, that doesn’t make her “white”, since she has an ambiguous look, and she wasn’t seen as white when she grew up. So she looks mixed in the eyes of many people, and a person who looks mixed is not just “white”. It doesn’t matter that you look even less white than her.

If she goes to Zimbabwe, she will be seen as white, clearly. If she goes to Northern Europe, she won’t. “White” has no fixed definition – unless you mean it literally, in which case she isn’t white, since she’s kind of beige.

      • NANAN says:

Ugh finally you admitted!!! lol i didnt mean “white” literlly oviosly i ment her features look white. although she might have a a few native american feature, she has mostly european features to me with a couple of native american. But again genes are crazy , you never know how your baby will look like, God just SUPRISES you :D

  3. NANAN says:

WHat r u retards talkting about SHE DOES LOOK WHITE!

    • Jimenez says:

I have a half Malay type Filipino/ half European relative who looks very much like Alba (at the time of Dark Angel, she’s younger than Alba). And that person is half Malay, since the Filipino parent is purely a Malay type Filipino. She also looked similar to you when she was very young! That person is only 50% European, by ancestry. Dos she look “white”? Maybe in some pictures, but not in real life. People can definitely see that she’s not purely European, and that she must have some other ancestry as well, even if they can’t actually tell what that may be.

I think that Alba subjectively looks a lot “whiter” now than she did back when they made “Dark Angel” and “Sleeping Dictionary”. But the person I talk about is 50% South East Asian, and Jessica is allegedly 87% European by ancestry. I think it’s meaningless to talk about race for mixed people, they simply don’t really look like any specific race, even though they may resemble one race more than another. And don’t forget, there really aren’t any discrete races, only clines of change based on geography. Which makes it even more ridiculous when you say “Shes 87%white 13% native PERIOD”.

She may LOOK white to you, but that’s entirely a subjective evaluation, not a fact. Obviously people who happen to also think that she looks “white” will vote “like” for your post, but the absolute statement you make has no real meaning since “white” is relative, as it depends on the social context.

      • colaacollaass says:

Ok well jimenez why do u feel so strongly about Jessica alba’s ethnicity? Is she someone you really care about lol your ridiculous. Looks dont mean alot in jessica albas situation ,noth that they dont mean anything, but you cant always tell someone by their looks. Yeah and of course the test dosnt Say white what do you think? they are not going to be like ” oh jessica your 87% white” LIKE LOL. Yeah shes beige so what?skin colour isnt everything. and besides, i bet everyone gets a little darker than they were when they were born like DUH. And if the tests WEREN’T accurate, it would only be a a little bit diffrent. I Bet everyone knows that jessica alba cant be anymore than 30% native. Ovioilsy if they say european its white. there is nothing wr ong wtih being white. i dont know why you feel so strongly towards Jessica being 87% european??

        • Jimenez says:

Who care’s why I post? And why do you reply to a post which isn’t about the stuff you write about, instead of the other one?

Maybe you can understand this, if I provide this example example: there are people who look very African American, and identifies as such, who have tested as little as 10% African, and there are people who looks completely European, and identifies as such, who have tested as much as a quarter African. As the testing facility writes, and that pretty crucial:

“Please note that this test does not predict or establish a person’s race*; it only gives an estimate of genetic ancestry or heritage”

          Difficult to understand?

The thing about her being beige was kind of a joke, by the way.

  4. KimJ says:

For anyone unfamiliar with what a mestizo is it is a person who is half Spanish (Caucasian) and half American Indian. So, essentially Jessica is mostly of European descent with a splash of Indian which gives her a slightly darker complexion.

  5. me says:

    her forehead is too big
