Janet Gaynor was an American actress and painter. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress, a shared prize for 7th Heaven (1927), Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927), and Street Angel (1928).

She was the daughter of Laura J. and Frank De Witt Gainor. She was married to costume designer Adrian, until his death, and then to film, theatre, and television producer Paul Gregory, untl her death. She had a son with Adrian.

Janet’s paternal grandfather was named John Warrington Gainer (the son of Michael Gainer and Ellen). John was born in Pennsylvania, to Irish parents.

Janet’s paternal grandmother was Maria Louise Head (the daughter of John Head and Mariah Seal). Janet’s grandmother Maria Louise was born in Pennsylvania, to an English father. Janet’s great-grandmother Mariah was the daughter of William Seal.

Janet’s maternal grandfather was Maximillian/Max Buhl (the son of Joseph Buhl and Maria Anna Romann). Maximillian was born in Württemberg, Germany. Joseph was the son of Thadaeus Buhl and Agatha Ott.
