Gale Sondergaard was an American actress. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Anthony Adverse (1936). Her father, Hans Tjellesen Smidt Søndergaard/Sondergaard, was from Rødding, Denmark. Her mother, Anne Kirstine (Holm), was from Vonsild, Nørre Tyrstrup, Vejle, Denmark.

Gale’s paternal grandparents were Hans Pedersen Søndergaard (the son of Peder Jespersen and Magrete Pedersen Søndergaard, Hansdatter) and Christiane Madsdatter/Madsdatters (the daughter of Mads Pedersen and Else Kathrine Pedersdatter).

Gale’s maternal grandparents were Hans Peter Rasmussen Holm (the son of Rasmus Hansen Griis and Johanne Marie Christiansdatter Kock) and Eline Marie Dorthea Krog (the daughter of Jens Christian Hansen Krog and Anne Kjerstine Roos).
