Eve Arden was an American actress, of film, radio, stage, and television, and a comedian. She performed in leading and supporting roles over nearly six decades, and was known for her films Stage Door (1937), Having Wonderful Time, At the Circus, Mildred Pierce, and Grease and Grease 2, among others, and the series Our Miss Brooks.
She was the daughter of Lucille and Charles Peter Quedens. Her grandparents were all born in Germany. Eve was married to actor Brooks West, until his death. She had four children, including one with her former husband Ned Bergen, and two with Brooks.
Eve’s paternal grandfather was Charles Henry Augustus Quedens (the son of Nanning Georg Quedens and Dorothea Amalie Wilhelmine Dreis). Charles was born in St. Pauli, Hamburg, Germany. Nanning was born in Norddorf, the son of Georg Hinrich Hark Quedens and Thur Nahmens Peters, who were from Amrum, Schleswig-Holstein. Dorothea was born in Hamburg, the daughter of Daniel Dreis and Dorothea Christine Verdick.
Eve’s paternal grandmother was Lucie Margarethe/Meta Diercks/Dierks (the daughter of Hinrich Diercks and Maria Catharina Wilders). Lucie was born in Bremen, Germany.
Eve’s maternal grandfather was named Bernard Frank. Bernard was born in Germany.
