Elpidio Quirino was a Filipino politician. He served as the sixth President of the Philippines, from April 17, 1948 to December 30, 1953.

His father, Mariano Quirino y Quebral (or Mariano Quebral Quirino in Filipino), was a native of Caoayan, Ilocos Sur. His mother, Gregoria Rivera y Mendoza (or Gregoria Mendoza Rivera in Filipino), was a native of Agoo, La Union. He was married to Alicia Jimenez Syquia, with whom he had five children.

Some sources state that Elpidio had Chinese and Spanish ancestry. It is not clear if these ancestries have been verified/documented.

Elpidio’s paternal grandfather was named Juan Manuel del Rosario, later Quirino. Juan Manuel was born in Abra, Cordillera Administrative Region, Philippines. He changed his surname from del Rosario to Quirino to conform to the tradition that all Ilocos Sur family names start with the letter Q.

Elpidio’s paternal grandmother was Toribia Quebral y Manzano (or Toribia Manzano Quebral in Filipino, the daughter of Potenciano Quebral and Francisca Manzano). Toribia was born in Aringay, La Union, Ilocos Region, Philippines.

Elpidio’s maternal grandfather was name Domingo Rivera. Domingo was said to be a Spanish friar. It is not clear if this is accurate.

Elpidio’s maternal grandmother was named María Mendoza. María was born in Agoo, La Union, Ilocos Region, Philippines .
