Ed Rendell is an American lawyer, prosecutor, politician, and author. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as Governor of Pennsylvania, from January 21, 2003 to January 18, 2011, as well as District Attorney of Philadelphia, from January 2, 1978 to January 6, 1986, Mayor of Philadelphia, from January 6, 1992 to January 3, 2000, and Chair of the National Governors Association, from July 14, 2008 to July 20, 2009.

Ed is the son of Emma (Sloat) and Jesse T. Rendell. His father was born in New York, to Russian Jewish parents. His mother was a Russian Jewish/Polish Jewish immigrant. His mother’s sister was designer Stella Sloat.

He has a son with his former wife, Midge Rendell, a Senior United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

Ed’s paternal grandfather was named Morris Rendell/Randell.

Ed’s paternal grandmother was named Ester.

Ed’s maternal grandfather was named Morris Sloat.
