Clyde Tombaugh was an American astronomer. He discovered the dwarf planet Pluto in 1930.
He was the son of Adella Pearl and Muron Dealvo Tombaugh. His brother, Robert Marvin Tombaugh, was the maternal grandfather of professional football player Clayton Kershaw. Clyde was married to Patricia, until his death, with whom he had two children.
Clyde’s paternal grandfather was Jacob L. Tombaugh (the son of Matthias Tombaugh and Rachel Spohn). Jacob was born in Pennsylvania. Matthias was the son of George Tombaugh and Elizabeth Gardner. Rachel was the daughter of John Spohn and Judith Wise.
