Clyde Tombaugh was an American astronomer. He discovered the dwarf planet Pluto in 1930.

He was the son of Adella Pearl and Muron Dealvo Tombaugh. His brother, Robert Marvin Tombaugh, was the maternal grandfather of professional football player Clayton Kershaw. Clyde was married to Patricia, until his death, with whom he had two children.

Clyde’s paternal grandfather was Jacob L. Tombaugh (the son of Matthias Tombaugh and Rachel Spohn). Jacob was born in Pennsylvania. Matthias was the son of George Tombaugh and Elizabeth Gardner. Rachel was the daughter of John Spohn and Judith Wise.

Clyde’s paternal grandmother was Sallie Jane Ostrander (the daughter of Joseph Pier Ostrander and Rachel Barber). Sallie was born in New York. Joseph was the son of Johannes Ostrander and Hannah Pier.

Clyde’s maternal grandfather was George Franklin Chritton (the son of William Washburn Chritton and Laura Ann Rector). George was born in Indiana. William was the son of William Washburn Chritton and Eura Eaton Drake. Laura was the daughter of George Rector and Polly Mary Riddle.

Clyde’s maternal grandmother was Emeratta “Etta” Swan (the daughter of Henry P. Swan and Deborah Johnson). Emeratta was born in Illinois.
