Carl Weathers was an American actor, director, and professional football player. He is known for starring as Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise, and for his roles in the films Friday Foster, Bucktown, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Semi-Tough, Force 10 from Navarone, Death Hunt (1981), Predator (1987), Action Jackson, Hurricane Smith, Happy Gilmore, Little Nicky, The Sasquatch Gang, The Comebacks, and Toy Story 4, in voice performance; and on the series Street Justice, Arrested Development, Chicago Justice, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, in voice role; and The Mandalorian, of which he also directed episodes. A gridiron linebacker, he played college football at San Diego State, and was drafted by the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL), later signing with the B.C. Lions.

He was the son of Agnes and Emanuel N. Weathers, Jr., a day laborer. Carl had two children with his former wife Mary Ann Castle.

Carl’s paternal grandfather was Emanuel Weathers (the son of Wade Weathers, and of a woman surnamed Thomas).

Carl’s paternal grandmother was Olivia Williams (the daughter of Cromwell Williams and Louise Alex).

Carl’s maternal grandfather was Walter Tennyson (the son of George Tennyson and Agnes Johnson). George was the son of Freeman Tennyson and Caroline/Carrie Washington.

Carl’s maternal grandmother was Jane Beatrice Snowton (the daughter of Nick C. Snowton and Ruth Page). Jane was born in Louisiana. Ruth was the daughter of James Page and Lizzie.
