Irving was born in Illinois, to parents from Russia, Harris Levin and Esther Sorkins/Sorkin. Bessie was born in either Missouri or Illinois, to parents from Russia, Louis Goldberg and Mollie.

Bryan’s maternal grandmother was Jeanette Dorothy Jerome (the daughter of Fred Andrew Jerome and Anna/Annie Lisk). Jeanette was born in New Jersey. Fred was born in Louisiana. Anna was born in Poland, to a mother surnamed Cohen.
