Anish Giri
Birth Name: Anish Kumar Giri
Place of Birth: Saint Petersburg, Russia
Date of Birth: June 28, 1994
Ethnicity:
*father – Bhojpuri Indian, possibly Khas
*mother – Russian
Anish Giri is a Russian-born Dutch chess grandmaster. He is a chess prodigy. He completed the requirements for the title Grandmaster at the age of 14 years, 7 months, and 2 days.
Anish was born in Saint Petersburg, to a Russian mother, Olga, and a father, Sanjay Giri, who is from Biratnagar, Nepal, and is of Bhojpuri and possibly Khas descent. He moved with his parents to Sapporo, Japan, in the mid 2000s, and then to Rijswijk, Netherlands, in 2008, where his father worked. He speaks Russian, English, and Dutch, and, to a degree, Japanese, Nepali, and German.
He is married to Georgian-born Dutch chess player, author, and commentator Sopiko Guramishvili, with whom he has two children. Sopiko holds the titles International Master (IM) and Woman Grandmaster (WGM).
Anish’s paternal grandmother is Bhojpuri Indian, from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

I suggest his ethnicity be changed to:
*father – Khas, Bhojpuri
*mother – Russian
Change Nepalese to “Khas.” Giris are a part of the Chhetri caste of the Khas people. Varanasi is in the Bhojpur region, which is home to the Bhojpuri people.
Biratnagar is also in the Bhojpur region of Nepal. So it is a possibility that his father might have been Bhojpuri as well.
I suspected his father’s parents could’ve been from the same ethnic group. Would make sense for them both to be Bhojpuri.
Ethnic, is there a picture, please?
