Joseph was born in Massachusetts, the son of Italian parents, Vito Nicola Perfito, who may have been from Turi, Bari, Apulia, and Palerma/Palma M. Carrenza/Carenza. Follers, you don’t read what I post. I said the “other 2nd great-grandmother” in my first comment.

    • bablah says:

I’m confused. Who is Constance and whose father was from Sicily?

      • jackson9 says:

You can confirm it. I believe maternal grandfather Nicholas V. Perfito the son of Joseph Perfito and Rose C. Settembrini. Rose was the daughter of Constance born specifically in Sicily in 1853.

What the hell are you talking about, bearboy? I added what you wrote. This comments section is turning into a greatest hits.

      • jackson9 says:

…neither Vita nor Rita is Astor’s maternal grandmother.
now I realize that quote was directed to someone else. I’ll stop adding more nonsense to the Andrew Astor thread. I apologize for accusing you. Bearboy has a lot of respect for Follers

Andrew is right. NOT a family tree but U.S. World War I draft Registration Card on ancestry.com

  3. andrew says:

Vito Nicola Perfito was born in Turi, Bari, Apulia.

Andrew’s maternal grandmother is named Vita S. Mangini

    • madman says:

Where did you find Vito’s birth place?

        • madman says:

That guy’s middle name is Antonio.

          • jackson9 says:

Along with what Andrew said the other 2nd great- grandfather from the maternal grandfather (Constance Settembrini) Rose Settembrini’s father was born in Sicily around 1853. I believe he immigrated to the Bronx later in his life.

            @madman

good point. People sometimes have two middle names, and just one of the two compare in different records

In this case it’s odd having two Vito Perfito in Northampton, Massachusetts, born at 2 years of distance (birth dates are often approximate). Same man?

          • madman says:

Could be. Though it’s not worth looking into. We know the guy was Italian, the exact place of birth isn’t important enough to risk adding the wrong record for.

Where did you get Vita S. Mangini from?

          • andrew says:

I dunno about Vita. I presume she was from the same place of her husband. Anyway, these are just trivia. I have alwais been good at Trivial Pursuit too.

          • madman says:

What are you talking about? You wrote “Andrew’s maternal grandmother is named Vita S. Mangini”. If you write that, you can’t then say “I dunno about Vita”. You got it from somewhere, right? When I’d already written that his grandmother’s name is Rita. I hope you’re not just guessing when you write comments (sometimes it seems like you are).

And no, this isn’t trivia. If her name is wrong, an entire quarter of the family tree will be wrong. That’s quite a lot.

          • andrew says:

Vita S. Mangini appears in one record I found, linked to Mr. Perfito. I am on my phone atm so I will check it later, but I didn’t invent her if that’s what you mean.

          • madman says:

What record? I can’t find any record of this Vita Mangini. Only records where her name is Rita, and I haven’t figured out her surname.

            https://trustifo.radaris.com/ng/view/Rita-Perfito-BhE4ExD

Please put his grandmother’s name back as Rita. And in the future, don’t just change things because Andrew leaves a comment. It makes it much harder to know what I’ve found out and haven’t if I want to go back and research more of his background.

          • follers says:

…neither Vita nor Rita is Astor’s maternal grandmother. Vita was Joseph Perfito’s paternal grandmother and Rita was presumably Astor’s maternal step-grandmother, given her obituary and marriage year.

So, in the future, something something something.

          • madman says:

            Oh yes, you’re right.

          • andrew says:

            @ madman

            Relax a bit.

          • andrew says:

            Did I see an update?
