Shmuel was born in Vaslui, Romania, the son of Alexander Sender Taubes and Shprintza/Sprintzes Taubes. Hinde was also born in Vaslui, and was the daughter of Abraham Ben Yehuda Leib Zelacovitch and Cecile/Zisi.
