Alex Proyas is an Australian film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is known for directing The Crow, starring Brandon Lee, as well fantasy and science fiction films Dark City, I, Robot, Knowing, and Gods of Egypt.

He was born in Alexandria, Egypt, to ethnic Greek parents. His father was an Egyptiot (a Greek-Egyptian) whose family had lived in Egypt for generations. His mother is a Greek Cypriot. His family moved to Sydney, Australia, when he was three. Alex is married to artist Catherine Linsley, who has worked on his films.
