Thomas A. Hendricks was an American politician and attorney. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as Vice President of the United States, from March 4, 1885 to November 25, 1885, his death. He was elected to the position in 1884. He was also a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Indiana, from March 4, 1851 to March 3, 1855, a U.S. Senator from Indiana, from March 4, 1863 to March 3, 1869, and Governor of Indiana, from January 13, 1873 to January 8, 1877.

He was previously the Democratic Party’s nominee for Vice President of the United States in 1876. He was also a candidate for the Democratic Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 1868, 1872, 1876, and 1884.

Vice President Hendricks was the son of Jane and John Hendricks. He was married to Eliza Morgan, with whom he had a son.

Vice President Hendricks’ paternal garndfather was Col. Abram/Abraham Hendricks (the son of Daniel Hendricks and Ann Stewart). Abram was born in New York or Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and fought in the American Revolution.

Vice President Hendricks’ paternal grandmother was Ann Jamison/Jameson (the daughter of Thomas Jamison and Ann/Susana Pollock). Vice President Hendricks’ grandmother Ann was born in New York.

Vice President Hendricks’ maternal grandfather was Archibald Thomson (the son of Lt. Alexander Thomson and Elizabeth Edmonstone/Edmundstone). Archibald was born in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, Scotland. Alexander was the son of Alexander Thomson. Elizabeth was the daughter of William Edmonstone and Agnes Haidley.

Vice President Hendricks’ maternal grandmother was named Mary Ann Andrews.
