Réal Caouette was a Canadian politician. He was Leader of the Ralliement Créditiste, from 1963 to 1971, and Leader of the Social Credit Party of Canada, from October 9, 1971 to December 16, 1976. He was also a Member of Parliament for Pontiac (QC), and then Témiscamingue (QC), from September 16, 1946 to June 27, 1949, and June 18, 1962 to December 16, 1976, respectively.
Réal was the son of Marie Cloutier and Samuel Caouette. He was married to Suzanne Cure. His son, Gilles Caouette, was also a politician, who was a Member of the Canadian Parliament for Charlevoix (QC), and then also Témiscamingue.
Réal’s paternal grandfather was Maxime Caouette (the son of Maximilien Caouette and Clémentine Ouellet). Maxime was born in St-Jean-Port-Joli, Québec. Maximilien was the son of Antoine Caouette and Angélique Dupont. Clémentine was the daughter of Joachim Ouellet and Salomee Caron.
Réal’s paternal grandmother was Délima Abel (the daughter of Odias Abel and Zephire Beaudet). Odias was the son of Jean-Benoit Abel and Judith Blanchet. Zephire was the daughter of Antoine Beaudet and Ursule Gauron.
Réal’s maternal grandfather was Jean-Baptiste Cloutier (the son of Uldoric Cloutier and Philomene Trottier). Jean-Baptiste was born in St-Prosper, Québec. Uldoric was the son of Louis Cloutier and Sophie Frigon. Philomene was the daughter of Jean Trottier and Josephte St-Arnaud.
Réal’s maternal grandmother was Sarah Pronovost (the daughter of Joseph Pronovost and Adelaide Despins). Sarah was born in St-Prosper, Québec. Joseph was the son of Francois Rouillard and Marie-Anne Veillette. Adelaide was the daughter of Louis Lefebvre and Adelaide Thibault.
