Sarah Gertrude Shapiro is an American filmmaker, television director, and writer. She co-created the series UnREAL.

Sarah is married to writer and director Jacinto Aganza, with whom she has a son.

Sarah has said:

[My upbringing was] pretty secular. My mom was raised Methodist and sort of pseudo-converted. My [Jewish] dad remarried when I was 13, to a Jewish woman; they’re Conservative and observant. I always felt a huge connection to the Jewish side of my family and, through that marriage, I’ve had an opportunity to be more involved in their synagogue and to find one of my own here in L.A.

Sarah’s paternal grandfather was named Abraham Shapiro (the son of Sam Shapiro and B. Velansky). Abraham was born in Russia.

Sarah’s paternal grandmother was Ann/Anna Warshaw/Warschaw (the daughter of Joseph “Joe”/Getz Warschawsky and Rose Dutchen). Ann was born in Russia. Joseph was born in Kiev, Ukraine.
