Louis St. Laurent was a Canadian politician and lawyer. A member of the Liberal Party, he served as the twelfth Prime Minister of Canada, from November 15, 1948 to June 21, 1957. He was a member of Parliament for Québec East (QC), from February 9, 1942 to March 31, 1958.

Prime Minister St. Laurent was the son of Mary Anne (Broderick) and Jean-Baptiste-Moise St-Laurent. His father was French-Canadian. His mother was Irish, born in Poppy Hill, Galway, Ireland. As such, Prime Minister St. Laurent was the first Canadian Prime Minister of significant Irish Catholic ancestry.

Prime Minister St. Laurent was married to Jeanne (Renault) St. Laurent, with whom he had five children.

Prime Minister St. Laurent’s paternal grandfather was Louis Etienne Clovis St-Laurent (the son of Joseph St-Laurent and Angelique Houle). Prime Minister St. Laurent’s grandfather Louis was born in Trois-Rivières, Québec. Joseph was the son of Jacques François St. Laurent and Marie-Françoise Lampron. Angelique was the daughter of Jean Baptiste Houde and Marie Josephe Biron.

Prime Minister St. Laurent’s paternal grandmother was Marie-Louise Parent (the daughter of Joseph Parent and Marie-Reine Crepeau). Joseph was the son of Joseph Parent and Josephte Legris. Marie-Reine was the daughter of Francois Crepeau and Genevieve Cote.

Prime Minister St. Laurent’s maternal grandfather was named Stephen Broderick.

Prime Minister St. Laurent’s maternal grandmother was named Bridget Tully.
