Pedro Martinez is an American professional baseball player. A starting pitcher, he played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Montreal Expos, the Boston Red Sox, the New York Mets, and the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015.

Pedro is the son of Leopoldina Martínez Taveras and Paulino Jaime Abréu. He is married to ESPN Deportes sideline reporter Carolina Cruz de Martínez. Carolina runs Pedro’s charity, Pedro Martínez and Brothers Foundation. He has four children, two of whom, Pedro Martínez, Jr. and Pedro Isaías Martínez, are also baseball players. Pedro became a U.S. citizen in 2006.

Pedro’s paternal grandfather was Vicente Jaime Encarnación (the son of Otilio Jaime and Virginia Encarnación).

Pedro’s paternal grandmother was Julia Abréu Martinez (the daughter of Basilio Abreu and María Martinez).

Pedro’s maternal grandfather was Guillermo Taveras Ubiera (the son of Nicolás Taveras Pérez and Cándida Ubiera).

Pedro’s maternal grandmother was named Inés Martínez Garcia.
