She is the daughter of Leslie, a concert pianist, and Jacques Singer (born Jakob Singer), a virtuoso violinist, symphony orchestra conductor, and music educator. Her father was born in Przemyśl, Poland, to a Jewish family; he moved to the U.S. in 1920, settling in Jersey City, New Jersey, with his family. Lori’s mother has English, Welsh, Irish, Scottish, and distant German, ancestry. It is likely that she converted to Judaism. Lori was raised Jewish. Among her siblings is actor Marc Singer.

Lori has a son with her former husband, lawyer Richard David Emery.

Lori’s paternal grandfather was named Meyer/Mark Eli Singer (the son of Elias Singer).
