Walter Brennan was an American actor and singer. He thrice won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, for Come and Get It (1936), Kentucky (1938), and The Westerner (1940).

Walter was the son of Margaret Elizabeth (Flanagan) and William John Brennan, who was an engineer and inventor. His father was born in Massachusetts, to an Irish father, and to an English-born mother, likely also of Irish descent. His mother was born in Massachusetts, to Irish parents. He was married to Ruth Caroline Wells, until his death, with whom he had three children.

    son of William John Brennan and Margaret Elizabeth Flanagan. Both his parents were actually born in Massachusetts.
