Tony Gwynn was an American professional baseball player. He was a right fielder, who played 20 seasons for the San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was nicknamed “Mr. Padre.”

Tony was the son of Vandella and Charles Gwynn, who were civil servants. His brother was professional baseball player, outfielder Chris Gwynn. He was raised in Long Beach. Tony was married to Alicia Gwynn. Their children are professional baseball player, outfielder Tony Gwynn, Jr., and R&B, hip hop, and pop singer Anisha Nicole (born Anisha Nicole Gwynn).

Tony’s paternal grandfather was Thomas Wesley Gwynn (the son of Agusta Gwynn and Mattie Lynch Gwynn).

Tony’s paternal grandmother was Callie Ann Patterson (the daughter of Ernest Patterson and Mattie Wilkes).
