Ronan O’Gara (Rónán Ó Gadhra) is an Irish rugby union player and coach. He played for sixteen seasons with Munster, with whom he won two Heineken Cups. He is Ireland’s second most-capped player, and highest points scorer.
Ronan was born in Sacramento, California, to Irish parents. He is the son of Joan and Fergal O’Gara, a professor in microbiology at University College Cork. His father was born in Ballisodare, Co. Sligo, and was an amateur rugby player for UCG Connacht. His mother was born in Ballina, Co. Mayo. Ronan has stated, “I was born in San Diego when my dad, who’s a scientist, was working over there.”
According to his birth certificate, Ronan was born in Sacramento. His family moved to County Cork, Ireland, when he was six months old.
Ronan is married to Jessica Daly, with whom he has five children.
