Oscar De La Hoya is an American professional boxer, boxing promoter, and mixed martial arts (MMA) promoter. He was born into a boxing family. His grandfather, father, and brother were all professional boxers. Oscar is the first Hispanic boxer to own a national boxing promotional firm, and has generated more money from boxing than any other boxer. He is nicknamed “The Golden Boy.”

Oscar is the son of Cecilia Padilla González and Joel Félix de la Hoya Salas, who are Mexican immigrants. Oscar is married to Puerto Rican singer and actress Millie Corretjer. He has six children, including a daughter, Atiana De La Hoya, with his former partner, model, actress, and reality television personality Shanna Moakler, and three with Millie.

He was granted Mexican citizenship in 2002.

Oscar’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his seventh great-grandfather, Juan Alonso de la Hoya. Oscar’s sixth great-grandfather, Francisco Alonso de la Hoya de la Hoya, migrated from Castille y León region, Spain, to San Juan del Río, Nueva Vizcaya, New Spain, now Durango, Mexico, in the mid-18th century.

Oscar’s paternal grandfather was Vicente de la Hoya Sánchez (the son of Enrique de la Hoya Sonora and Constancia Sánchez Ruiz). Vicente was born in Ignacio Ramírez, Guadalupe Victoria, Durango, Mexico. Enrique was the son of Jacinto de la Hoya Quiñones and Inocencia Sonora Abalos. Constancia was the daughter of Vicente Sánchez López and Andrea Ruiz Cerna.

Oscar’s paternal grandmother was Guadalupe Salas Morales (the daughter of José Felipe Salas Sariñana and María Juana de Dios Morales Medrano). José was the son of José Miguel Salas Cobos and Anselma Sariñana Rivera. María was the daughter of Félix Morales Mata and María Reyes Salazar, also known as María Reyes Medrano Salazar.

Oscar’s maternal grandfather was surnamed Padilla.

Oscar’s maternal grandmother was surnamed González.
