He is married to actress and writer Rita Valencia.

Jacob was born in Minnesota, to parents from Ukraine/Russia, who were Russian Mennonites, of German and some Dutch descent. Peter was the son of Peter J. Dueck and Anna Hooge. Maria was the daughter of Jacob D. Goossen/Goosen and Maria Voth.
