Kathleen Wynne is a Canadian politician. A member of the Liberal Party, she served as Premier of Ontario, from February 11, 2013 to June 29, 2018. She has also been a Member of the Ontario Provincial Parliament, from October 2, 2003 to May 3, 2022, and Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, from January 26, 2013 to June 7, 2018, among other duties.

She is the first female premier of Ontario, as well as the first openly gay head of government in Canada, and the first openly gay head of government in the English-speaking world.

Kathleen is the daughter of Patsy (O’Day) and John Burnes Wynne. Her mother was born and raised in Nassau, the Bahamas. Kathleen was raised in Richmond Hill. She is married to Jane Rounthwaite. She has three children with her former husband Phil Cowperthwaite.

Kathleen’s paternal grandfather was Charles Seymour/Sherman Wynne (the son of John B. Wynne and Annie Brown). John was born in Lanark, Ontario, to Irish parents, John Wynne and Alice Hill, from Killkenny. Annie was the daughter of Scottish parents, Peter Brown and Alice Duncan.

Kathleen’s paternal grandmother was Eva Margaret Elisabeth Crummer (the daughter of John Percy Edward Crummer and Ann/Annie Jane Watson). Eva was born in Lambton, Ontario. John was the son of John Crummer and Margaret Burns, who were from Ulster, Northern Ireland. Ann was the daughter of William Watson and Elisabeth/Elizabeth Wallace, who were Scottish.

Kathleen’s maternal grandfather was named Stephen Blemerhassett O’Day (the son of Thomas O’Day).

Kathleen’s maternal grandmother was Marjorie Eugenie Albury (the daughter of Stanley Victor Strathmore Albury and Minnie Beatrice Parks). Stanley was the son of Joseph Johnson Albury and Georgiana Parks. Minnie was the daughter of George Thomas Parks and Sara Eliza Carey.
