Junichirō Koizumi

Junichirō Koizumi is a Japanese politician. He served as the 87th Prime Minister of Japan, from April 26, 2001 to September 26, 2006. He was a Member of the Japanese Parliament, from 1996 to 2009, and a Minister for Foreign Affairs, from January 26, 2002 to February 16, 2002, among other duties.

He is the son of politician Junya (Samejima) and Yoshie Koizumi. He has three children, including actor Kotaro Koizumi and politician Shinjirō Koizumi, with his former wife Kayoko Miyamoto. Shinjirō is married to television personality Christel Takigawa.

Junichirō’s paternal grandfather was Samejima Yazaemon, or Yazaemon Samejima in Western naming order.

Junichirō’s maternal grandfather was Koizumi Matajirō (or Matajirō Koizumi in Western naming order, the son of Koizumi Yūhyōe, or Yūhyōe Koizumi in Western naming order, and of Okazaki Toku, or Toku Okazaki in Western naming order). Toku was the daughter of Okazaki Bungorō, or Bungorō Okazaki in Western naming order.

Junichiro’s maternal grandmother was Ishikawa Katsu, or Katsu Ishikawa in Western naming order.
