Jason Kidd is an American professional basketball player and coach. He is the head coach for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has played for the Dallas Mavericks, the Phoenix Suns, the New Jersey Nets, and the New York Knicks. He has coached the Brooklyn Nets, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Los Angeles Lakers (the latter as assistant coach). He is considered one of the greatest point guards and passers, and is a 10-time NBA All-Star, five-time All-NBA First Team member, and nine-time NBA All-Defensive Team member. He won two gold medals at the Olympics with the U.S. national team, in 2000 and 2008. He is 6′4″.
Jason was raised in Oakland, California, where he often played against Gary Payton in the playgrounds. His father, Steve Fredrick Kidd, was African-American. His mother is of Irish descent. He is married to model Porschla Coleman. He has three children with his former wife, actress and journalist Joumana Kidd.

I get so aggravated when someone of mixed race, who incidentally looks more white than black, as in Jason Kidd’s case, is called only black.
That view is clearly on old fashioned, out-dated one from people who can’t wrap their brains around the fact that we no longer live in a time of Jim Crow or slavery. When someone is mixed (with white & black) they are not only black.
If Jason wants to call himself black, that’s his prerogative, because at the end of the day, no one has the right to label someone in a race that they think they are, except the person themselves who feels comfortable in being considered or seen as the race they want to be viewed as.
It also aggravates me when someone gets upset when the mixed person chooses to be who they are and then they proceed to ridicule them for it, such as “He/She don’t want to be black/white” or “He/She is ashamed of being black/white”, etc. That’s just plain wrong and it seems like too much judging on the other person’s part. Everyone has their own experience, throughout their childhood or lifetime and unless you walk in that person’s shoes, you don’t have the right to judge.
There shouldn’t be a right or wrong answer when a mixed person chooses to call themselves what they feel comfortable in being.
Wow it’s really lame how some black women (I’m a black woman myself though) try to pretend like a lot of black men aren’t dating white women/or other races of women. In almost all of these biracial childrens case they are the product of a black father and a white or asian or whatever mother. Get real people.

Not really. I know alot of black girls who would be considered “ghetto” and alot of them are into good black men and white guys. Infact most stereotypical black “ghetto” girls are more open to white men then black men and I believe most interracial marriages are between black women and white men. The government just wants people to think black women are ugly and not into that and light-skin is better. Other then that is it just me but does anyone believe most children from black mothers and white fathers usually have a 15 minutes of fame compared to children of black fathers and white mothers. I mean we always hear about Halle Berry but when do we hear about Keyshia Cole or Farrah Franklin and whatever happened to Faith Evans.

yeah but thats relatively new in our country…prior to the 1950’s i dont know anyone of mixed race that DIDNT have a black mother and white father when you think of how serious it was for a black male to even accidentally touch a white woman. For the majority of the time people have been living in the US most mixed race babies were the product of white men and blk women…this blk male/white female stuff is more predominant in this age but suppppper new.
