Harmon Killebrew was an American professional baseball player. He was a first baseman, third baseman, and left fielder, and played for the Washington Senators/Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was nicknamed “The Killer” and “Hammerin’ Harmon.”

Harmon was the son of Katherine Pearl and Harmon Clayton Killebrew, who was a painter and sheriff. His father was a member of an undefeated Millikin College football team. He became a member of the LDS church (Mormon).

Harmon’s paternal grandfather was Culver Killebrew (the son of James Ivy Killebrew and Mahala Crosby). Culver was born in Illinois. He was said to have been the strongest man in the Union Army, and to have won every available heavyweight wrestling championship. James was the son of Lawrence Killebrew and Elizabeth Bullock. Mahala was the daughter of Hezekiah Crosby, Jr.

Harmon’s paternal grandmother was Frances/Francis Alice Weaver (the daughter of Harmon Weaver and Sarah “Sally” Roberts). Frances was born in Illinois. Harmon was the son of Asa Weaver and Lucretia. Sarah was the daughter of David Roberts and Lovina Poole/Pool.

Harmon’s maternal grandfather was William May (the son of John May and Eliza Jane/Jennie Ruyle). William was born in Illinois. Eliza was the daughter of Alfred Ruyle and Sarah Ann Blackstone.

Harmon’s maternal grandmother was Sarah E. Faris (the daughter of Elijah Faris and Frances Gilland Griffin). Sarah was born in Illinois. Frances was the daughter of William Griffin and Anna Delia McLain.
