David Weil is an American writer, producer, director, and showrunner. He has created the shows Hunters and Solos, and co-created the shows Invasion (2021) and Citadel. He also wrote for all his shows, and directed episodes of Hunters and Solos.

David was raised in a Conservative Jewish household in Long Island. His maternal grandparents were Holocaust survivors.

David’s paternal grandfather was Jerome Smolinsky (the son of Walter Smolinsky and Rose Leffler). Jerome was born in The Bronx, New York. Walter was the son of Russian Jewish/Polish Jewish parents, Simon Smolinsky and Leah Adelson. Rose was the daughter of Austrian Jewish/Galician Jewish parents, Louis Leon Leffler/Loffler and Anna/Annie Cipher/Zipper.

David’s paternal grandmother was Ethel Ullman (the daughter of Gus/Gaston/Castor Ullman and Lillian Goldberg). Ethel was born in The Bronx, New York. Gus was the son of French Jewish parents, Leopold Ullmo and Celia/Zerline Dukas, who was from Foussemagne, Territoire de Belfort, Franche-Comté, and had deep roots in Alsace-Lorraine, as well as ancestors from Bohemia/Czechia. David’s great-grandmother Lillian was born in Chicago, Illinois.

David’s maternal grandfather was Menachem Mendel “Menek” Grossman (the son of Wolf Zev Grossman and Feiga/Faiga Hershkowitz). Menachem was born in Łódź, Łódź Voivodeship, Poland. Wolf was the son of Fievel/Fajwel/Faiwel Grossman/Grosman and Rivka/Rywka Frucht. Feiga was the daughter of Mendel Hershkowitz/Herszkowitz and Chaya Rachel Kirshenbaum.

David’s maternal grandmother was Sara Hinda Weil-Grossman (the daughter of Schmuel/Szmul Chaim Wajl/Weil and Kayla/Kajla Mirla Balsam). Sara was born in Lódz. She survived the Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps.
