David Alan Grier is an American actor and comedian. His roles include the shows Damon, Life with Bonnie, The Carmichael Show, and A Series of Unfortunate Events, and the films Streamers, A Soldier’s Story, In the Army Now, Blankman, Tales from the Hood, Jumanji, Stuart Little, Return to Me, Baadasssss!, Bewitched, Dance Flick, and Native Son.

He is the son of Aretas, a school teacher, and William Henry Grier, a psychiatrist and writer. His father co-published the book Black Rage, in 1968. He has a daughter with his former wife, contemporary art curator Christine Y. Kim.

David’s paternal grandfather was named William Henry Grier.

David’s paternal grandmother was named Effie Lee Washington (the daughter of Joseph Washington and Laura).

David’s maternal grandfather was named Walter St. Clair Blaney (the son of John Richard Blaney and Laura Gibson).
