Bertie Ahern is an Irish politician. He served as the 11th Taoiseach, from 26 June, 1997 to 7 May, 2008, among many other duties. He is the son of farmers Julia (Hourihane) and Cornelius “Con” Ahern.

Bertie is married to Miriam Kelly, but they have since been legally separated. Their older daughter, Georgina Ahern, is married to singer Nicky Byrne. Their younger daughter, Cecelia Ahern, is a novelist.

Bertie’s paternal grandfather was Maurice Ahern (the son of Cornelius “Con” Ahern and Anne Corrigan). Maurice was born in Ballingarry, County Cork.

Bertie’s paternal grandmother was Ellen Ahern (the daughter of David Ahern and Mary Dempsy). Ellen was born in Ballyfeard, County Cork.

Bertie’s maternal grandfather was Bartholomew Hourihane (the son of Bartholomew Hourihane and Hannah Brien). Bertie’s grandfather Bartholomew was born in Castlehaven, County Cork.
