Carl Froch is a British professional boxer, boxing analyst, and commentator. As an amateur in the middleweight division, he won a bronze medal at the 2001 World Championships, and twice the ABA title. He held the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles, from 2004 to 2008, the Lonsdale Belt in 2006, the WBC title, twice, from 2008 and 2011, the IBF title, from 2012 to 2015, and the WBA (Unified) title, from 2013 to 2015. He is nicknamed “The Cobra.”

He is the son of Carol and Frank Froch. He is married to glamour model Rachael Froch, with whom he has three children.

Carl’s paternal grandfather was named Wojciech Froch. Wojciech was from Katowice, Poland, and had some degree of German ancestry.

Carl’s paternal grandmother was named Alexandra Budzik. Alexandra was from Tarnów, Poland.

Carl’s maternal grandfather was named Oswald Douglas.

Carl’s maternal grandmother was named Edith.

Numerous web sites (including, embarrassingly, The Guardian newspaper) state that Carl’s father’s family were Polish Jews. His paternal grandparents were not of Jewish background. In his book autobiography, The Cobra: My Story, 2011, Carl recounts how his paternal grandfather was made to serve in the German army during World War II, because of his own German ancestry.
