Sarah Huckabee Sanders is an American politician. A Republican, she has been Governor of Arkansas, since Janaury 10, 2023. She was also White House Deputy Press Secretary, from January 20, 2017 to July 26, 2017, and White House Press Secretary, from July 26, 2017 to July 1, 2019. She is the first person born in the 1980s to serve as governor of a U.S. state.

She is the daughter of Janet (McCain), who has been a nominee for political office, and politician, writer, television show host, and ordained Baptist minister, Mike Huckabee. Her father was Governor of Arkansas, from July 15, 1996 to January 9, 2007, Chairman of the National Governors Association, from July 18, 2005 to August 7, 2006, and a Presidential candidate in 2008 and 2016. Her brother is mortgage broker David Huckabee.

Sarah is married to media consultant Bryan Sanders, with whom she has three children.

Sarah’s paternal grandfather was Dorsey Wiles Huckabee (the son of Virgil Huckabee and Ernie J. Betts). Dorsey was born in Hope, Hempstead, Arkansas. Virgil was the son of Lucius Elmore Huckabee and Lula McKee. Ernie was the daughter of Lucius C. Betts and Sarah F. Wilson.

Sarah’s paternal grandmother was Mae Elder (the daughter of William Thomas Elder and Eva Lorene Whitney). Mae was born in Hope, Hempstead, Arkansas. William was the son of Granville Elder and Sarah J. Bryant. Eva was the daughter of Charles O. Whitney and Sarah R. Sickler.

Sarah’s maternal grandfather was Angus Bouie McCain (the son of Edward McCain and Olra Bernice Chaffin). Angus was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Edward was the son of Angus Bouie McCain and Cora Balma Peake. Olra was the daughter of Reese Chaffin and Clara J.

Sarah’s maternal grandmother was Pat (Potter) Stephens (the daughter of George Edward Potter and Thelma Lucille Talbot). Pat was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She served four two-year terms from 1965 to 1972 as the county clerk for Hempstead County, Arkansas. George was the son of Frank J. Potter and Mamie L. Starks. Thelma was the daughter of Benjamin M. Talbot and Rosa Allen.
