Jean Charest is a Canadian politician. As a member of the Liberal Party, he served as Premier of Québec, from April 29, 2003 to September 19, 2012. Federally, he was Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, from December 14, 1993 to April 2, 1998, as well as a Member of Parliament for Sherbrooke (QC), from September 4, 1984 to April 30, 1998, Minister of State (Youth), from June 30, 1986 to January 23, 1990, Minister of the Environment, from April 21, 1991 to June 24, 1993, Minister of Industry, Science and Technology, from June 25, 1993 to November 4, 1993, and Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, from June 25, 1993 to November 4, 1993; among other duties.

Jean is the son of Rita Ann (Leonard) and Claude “Red” Charest. He is married to Michèle Dionn, with whom he has three children.

Jean’s paternal grandfather was Urbain-Ludovic Charest (the son of Joseph Charest and Marie-Delia/Jeanne Boucher). Urbain-Ludovic was born in Sherbrooke, St-Michel, Québec. Joseph was the son of Ferdinand Charest and Léocadie Therrien. Marie Jeanne was the daughter of Antoine Boucher and Marie Bibeau.

Jean’s paternal grandmother was Rose Armande/Amanda Dion (the daughter of Joseph Dion and Georgianna L’Archevêque). Rose was born in St-Elie-d’Orford, Québec. Joseph was the son of François Dion and Philomène Gendron. Georgianna was the daughter of Alfred L’Archevêque and Célina Robert.

Jean’s maternal grandfather was Edward Wales Leonard (the son of James Leonard and Maria Cody). James was the son of Hugh Leonard and Mary Owen. Jean’s great-grandmother Maria was the daughter of Michael Cody and Mary Cleane.

Jean’s maternal grandmother was Margaret Green (the daughter of Timothy Green and Isabella McGoogan). Timothy was the son of Charles Green and Margaret Clancy. Isabella was the daughter of James McGoogan and Nacy McQuillin.
