Denis Potvin is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He was a defensemen and team captain for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Denis is the son of Regina and Louis Philippe Potvin. His brother, Jean Potvin, was also an NHL defenseman, and his cousin, Marc Potvin, also played for the NHL.

Denis’ paternal grandparents were named Louis Potvin and Marie Parent.

Denis’ maternal grandfather was Nazaire Boucher (the son of Louis Boucher and Marie Mailloux). Nazaire was born in St-Paul-du-Nord. Louis was the son of Benoit-Mathias Boucher and Marie-Louise Desbiens. Marie was the daughter of Bonaventure Mailloux and Hortense Tremblay.
