Danielle Steel is an American novelist.

Danielle is the daughter of Norma (da Câmara Stone dos Reis) and John Schuelein/Schülein-Steel. Danielle’s father was a German Jew. Danielle’s mother was born in Massachusetts, of Portuguese, as well as some English, descent. Her English ancestry can be traced back to John Stone, who was born in the United Kingdom and moved to the Azores before 1760.

Danielle has nine children, including five with her former husband, John Traina. She is also the mother of late singer Nick Traina, who died in 1997, from her relationship with William George Toth.

Danielle’s paternal grandfather was Julius Schülein (the son of Joseph Schülein and Ida Bär). Joseph was born in Thalmassing, Bavaria, Germany, the son of Joel/Julius Schülein and Jeanette Gunzenhäuser. Ida was born in Grabfeld, Thuringia, Germany.

Danielle’s paternal grandmother was Minni Laura Kahn (the daughter of Julius Kahn and Aurelie/Annelie Lichtenstetter). Minni was born in Germany. Julius was the son of Joseph Kahn and Johanna Blatt. Aurelie was born in Germany, the daughter of Josef Lichtenstetter and Nanny Müller.

Danielle’s maternal grandfather was Gil da Câmara Stone dos Reis (the son of João Besto dos Reis and Alexandrina da Câmara Stone). Gil was born in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Azores. João was born in the Azores. Alexandrina was also born in the Azores, the daughter of Manuel da Câmara Stone and Leonarda da Glória de Almeida.

Danielle’s maternal grandmother was named Norma. Norma was born in Lisbon, Portugal.
